What are some of the advantages of having

a veterinarian see your pets at home?

1.  DECREASED STRESS for both you and your pet! Some cats don't come out from under the bed for days after the stress of being put in a carrier, transported in the car, having to be around strange people and other pets, and then being transported back home.  That's even before the veterinarian and the staff are able to examine and treat your cat!  Some dogs can likewise can be car sick or be very nervous or fearful at the vet.  Dr. Keira Troxell is experienced in animal behavior and will take her time getting to know both of you in the comfort and convenience of your own home.

2.  Convenience is another plus!   Home-bound seniors and others may find it difficult to find a ride to the vet office.  Also, if you have other obligations such as young children that prevent you from easily taking a trip to the vet clinic, a house call can be a great alternative.  If you are allowed to bring your pet to work, we can even meet you there.  And if you get together with friends, neighbors, family members, training club members, etc., you can have the cost of your house call fee split between everyone!  We often come to assisted living facilities where pets are permitted to live with residents.  We are pleased to offer a senior discount to our senior clients!

3.  Some patients are very large or are difficult to transport, especially if they have been sick or injured.  Because we come to you, this eliminates the need to ask a friend or relative to help you load your pet into the car to the vet clinic if you are not physically able to do so or do not have transportation.

4.  Disease prevention, particularly for young animals that do not have the same level of immunity as older animals, is very important.  Even the cleanest of veterinary hospitals can have unseen bacteria and viruses that your pet can accidentally come in contact with.  As we are able to do a puppy or kitten's checkups, vaccine series, and dewormings at your home, there is less risk of contracting a disease at the vet clinic.

5.  If you or your family are allergic to animals besides your own pets, a house call in the comfort of your own home is a great way to avoid contact with other animals that might be at a vet hospital.

6.  Because we can take a look at your pet's environment, it is easier to assist you in treating their medical or behavior issues right in your home rather than trying to communicate their living arrangements off site.

7.  We also take end of life care very seriously.  The decision to say goodbye to your beloved pet is never easy and many owners prefer their pet's last moments be spent in the comfort and privacy of their own homes instead of at the vet hospital.  Please see our page on home euthanasia for pets, for more information on this valuable service.
